Seasoned Sweet Potato Steak Fries

A healthy, homemade, alternative to the frozen seasoned potato fries you find in the grocery store. These have healthy oils and spices, and sweet potatoes are rich in vitamin A. This could also be done with regular potatoes if you do not have sweet potatoes. Even if you don’t like sweet potatoes as a rule, you might like these so it’s worth trying once.  I absolutely can not stand the way most people make sweet potatoes, by adding sweet sauces to them such as maple syrup. I love them with a little spice however. Let me know what you think.

Prep time: Approx 1 hour

Servings: 4 – 6 adults as a side dish

Ingredients:

4 large Sweet potatoes

Extra Virgin Olive Oil, enough to lightly coat sweet potatoes

1 tbl Cumin

1 tlb Rosemary

1 tbl Garlic powder

1 tsp chili powder

Salt to taste

Black pepper to taste

Chopping those potatoes into steak fries. It’s hard…. Be careful. I recommend a sharp knife. Please be careful as this is a hard job. Do not, no matter how tempting, treat your knife like an ax.  I want you to keep your fingers.

Eventually you will have a bunch of steak fries awaiting the next step.

This is what turns sweet potatoes into seasoned sweet potatoes. 😀 Add all spices and the oil to the potatoes and stir in the bowl, or better yet, put everything into a plastic bag, inflate and shake around, until evenly coated.

They should look something like this. And the smell is lovely, if you like cumin.

Arrange as a single layer on 2 baking trays.

Bake in the oven at 450 in a pre-heated oven until the skin starts to get crispy and bubble (15-20 mins), turn over and bake until soft on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside. Stab with fork to test doneness. Probably another 15 -20 mins. To tell the truth I never time things…. I just watch carefully and check often.

Add some marinara sauce or another sauce you like for dipping. Enjoy!
